A Beautiful Mess: A Study of 1 Corinthians – Pt. 3 – Thank God for Grace!

Paul makes thanksgiving a priority.

No matter what junk we are facing – and Paul had a lot of junk to face in Corinth – celebrating God’s goodness first puts everything else in the proper perspective.

The grace-gifts of the Spirit are visible expressions of His activity for the express purpose of benefitting the entire community of faith.

Paul’s opening thanksgiving section drives home to the Corinthians that apart from the grace of God, they have nothing to boast about.

Paul gives three lenses through which to get a new perspective:

1 – Jesus is coming.

2 – God is faithful.

We can trust God to get us safely into His Kingdom and count us completely righteous in Christ when we get there.

3 – We are one in Christ by God’s grace.

There is only a fellowship of His Son because of His grace makes it possible.

We must constantly be on guard against anything that brings division, not just between each other, but also between us and other churches in our community and around the world.
